Midwifery Care

Midwife, or "mid-wife," translates from old English to "with woman."  This definition is at the heart of the work we do: we walk with women through the immense initiation of pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. We, as midwives, have the immense honor of meeting our clients as the women they are, sharing and supporting gestation and delivery, and meeting them once again as the Mothers they become.

Prenatal Care

Prenatal care is the cornerstone of Midwifery.

During our prenatal visits, we will have the opportunity to build a relationship of trust and mutual respect that will become the foundation of how we relate during birth.

It is also an opportunity for you and your family to ask questions, seek guidance, and be celebrated in the experience of pregnancy. During each prenatal visit we will assess mama and baby's wellbeing.

In our appointments, we will focus on nutrition, education about pregnancy and birth, optimizing maternal and fetal health, comfort and wellbeing.

Our appointments will be an hour long, and we will follow this schedule:

- Once a month until 28 weeks

-Twice a month from 28-36 weeks

- Weekly from 36 weeks until delivery

Labor

The key to labor is supporting maternal safety and empowerment by facilitating a space where you can delve into your intuitive nature to allow your body to do what it innately knows how to do. We will encourage this by coming to support you when you are in active labor, and guide you through labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. We will be as hands off or as active a participant as you need. You will be supported in choosing how you want to labor, and how you want to birth.

Throughout labor, we will be assessing mama and baby for wellbeing, to ensure that labor is safe and progressing naturally.

If you desire, water birth is an option!

After your baby is delivered, we will support you with breastfeeding, perform a thorough exam of your baby, feed you, and tuck you into bed!

Postpartum Care

After the birth of your baby, we will stay with you between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the support that is needed. We will lovingly help you to establish comfortable breastfeeding and make sure that you and the baby are in a good space before tucking you in to sleep.

We will come to see you for your first postpartum visit 24-26 hours after the birth.

We will come again at 1 week, and 2 weeks postpartum, and are available for additional support as needed.

At 4 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum we will meet at the office for our final visits.

We will also take care of filing the birth certificate, and offer all of the newborn testing recommended by the state such as: New Born Metabolic Screening (Heel Poke), CCHD Screening, Hearing Test, etc.

At each visit we will assess baby's growth, support breastfeeding, and ensure that you are recovering well and feeling abundantly supported.

Midwifery Care

“Just as there is no warning for childbirth, there is no preparation for the sight of [a] child... There should be a song for women to sing at this moment, or a prayer to recite. But perhaps there is none because there are no words strong enough to name the moment.”
