Midwifery Care
Holistic Midwifery Care in Prescott, Arizona
At the Heart of Midwifery
Midwife, or "mid-wife," translates from old English to "with woman." This definition is at the heart of the work we do: we walk with women through the immense initiation of pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. We, as midwives, have the immense honor of meeting our clients as the women they are, sharing and supporting gestation and delivery, and meeting them once again as the Mothers they become.

Midwifery care is based upon the principle of informed consent: I will offer you standard of care options, discuss pros and cons, and you get to decide what aligns with your family values. My intention is to offer care that supports the human being who is pregnant.

Prenatally we build trust and mutual respect, the foundation of how we relate during birth...
Each visit is an opportunity for you and your family to ask questions, seek guidance, and be celebrated in the experience of pregnancy...
MADRE MIDWIFERY
Labor and Delivery
The key to labor is supporting maternal / fetal safety and empowerment by facilitating a space where you can delve into your intuitive nature to allow your body to do what it innately knows how to do.
We will encourage this by coming to support you in active labor, and supporting you through labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
We will be as hands off or as active a participant as you need. You will be supported in choosing how you want to labor, and how you want to birth.
Throughout labor, we will be assessing mama and baby for wellbeing by monitoring vitals and fetal heart tones to ensure that labor is safe and progressing naturally.
If you desire, water birth is an option! There are many benefits to water birth: relaxation, reduced tearing, pain relief, etc.
Your birth will be attended my myself and 1 additional licensed midwife or assistant
We will remain 2-6 hours after birth. In this time we will complete a newborn exam, support with breastfeeding, perform suturing if indicated, and ensure that mama and baby are stable before heading out.
We always return between 24-36 hours postpartum for continued care and support.
MADRE MIDWIFERY
Postpartum Care
After the birth of your baby, we will stay with you between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the support that is needed. We will lovingly help you to establish comfortable breastfeeding and make sure that you and the baby are in a good space before tucking you in to sleep.
We will come to see you for your first postpartum visit 24-26 hours after the birth.
We will come again at 1 week, and 2 weeks postpartum, and are available for additional support as needed. At 4 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum we will meet at the office for our final visits.
We will also take care of filing the birth certificate, and offer all of the newborn testing recommended by the state such as: New Born Metabolic Screening (Heel Poke), CCHD Screening, Hearing Test, etc.
At each visit we will assess baby's growth, support breastfeeding, and ensure that you are recovering well and feeling abundantly supported.

Many insurances and HSA programs will cover Labs and Ultrasounds. To bill insurance for Midwifery Services (not labs/ultrasounds), clients are recommended to contact Vicci Davidson, a biller who specializes in midwifery claims, and out of network exceptions.
An empowered, safe, and respectful birth is a human right. I believe that midwifery care can act as a force of profound personal healing and social change. My intention is for my care to remain accessible to all families. Please reach out to discuss need-based payment plans.
“Just as there is no warning for childbirth, there is no preparation for the sight of [a] child... There should be a song for women to sing at this moment, or a prayer to recite. But perhaps there is none because there are no words strong enough to name the moment.”
